Chondroitin
Chondroitin is a naturally occurring component of connective tissue in animals, including joint cartilage. It is an important component of proteoglycans, which, together with collagen, help maintain the structural integrity of cartilage and its elasticity and ability to resist mechanical stress. Chondroitin also acts as a so-called "molecular sponge," attracting water to the cartilage, which ensures proper hydration and elasticity, and also allows for smooth and efficient joint movements. Chondroitin supplementation is often used to treat degenerative joint diseases in animals, such as osteoarthritis, which often affect older dogs. Chondroitin supports cartilage regeneration, reduces pain and improves joint function through its anti-inflammatory properties and ability to inhibit cartilage-destroying enzymes. Additionally, chondroitin can help reduce the need for anti-inflammatory medications such as NSAIDs, which is especially important for animals with stomach or kidney problems that may contraindicate the use of these medications. Chondroitin supplementation can therefore significantly improve the quality of life of animals suffering from joint disease, increasing their comfort and mobility.
